Löwchen first caught my attention at rare breed shows in the U.S. in the early 1970s. I researched the breed and wrote an article about them for Dogs in Canada magazine in 1981. But it wasn't until the early 1990s that I first acquired one – and then another, and another. I've been honored to judge sweeps at both the U.S. and Canadian national specialty shows. At the time the breed was accepted into the AKC in 1999, I applied to judge them under the adjunct system. I'm the past president of the Löwchen Club of America. I currently own four Löwchen and co-own two others. They're shown in both conformation and obedience.
My involvement with purebred dogs and shows began in the late 1950s with an Irish Setter. Bearded Collies came into my life with a vengeance in the late 1960s and are still very much a part of it. While living in Canada, I was one of the founders of the breed in that country. My first Briard joined the family in 1971 and one or more has been in residence ever since. I'm an approved judge of both breeds in Canada and the U.S.
