Jean Richland, Majestic Court Löwchen, introduced herself to the breed by sitting on the floor for three days studying four five week old Löwchen puppies. From this point on, she was totally enamored of the breed and selected her first male. "It's strange that I started my exhibiting and breeding career back in 1961 with Keeshonden, moved on to the Herding Breeds, became A.K.C. licensed to judge and came back to the Löwchen." "It must be something about that ‘HIGH TAIL SET!'
Melita Road Bearded Collies, Jean's Beardie Kennel, was the first in California to import the Beardie from England in 1968. Actively involved in promoting the breed to AKC Miscellaneous Status, she began showing her foundation stock in the early "70''s. Credited with over 50 champions, mostly breeder/owner handled, Jean still has an occasional litter of Beardies as well as Löwchen, both of which are the love of her life.
She is involved as Legislative Chair and on the Board of Directors of Lake Mathews Kennel Club. Also as the President and Regional Specialty Show Co-Chair of the Bearded Collie Club of Southern California, Jean is the club's AKC Liaison and a founding member. She is an active member of the Kennel Club of Palm Springs and Treasurer of the Löwchen Club of America. Jean is also a member of the Canadian Löwchen Club and the Sand to Sea Non Sporting Club. She is an approved mentor of the Bearded Collie Club of America and the Löwchen Club of America.
Jean is licensed by AKC to judge the Löwchen, Bearded Collie, Border Collie, Welsh Corgi Cardigan, Keeshonden, and Juniors. She also judges six other breeds, including the Belgian Tervuren, Bouvier des Flandres, Briard, Welsh Corgi Pembroke, and Lhasa Apso. Being asked to judge in Melbourne and Sydney, Australia and the regional Bearded Collie Specialty in 2004 are two of many honored and gratifying assignments.
